About the Club

Established in 1955, The Melbourne Advertising and Design Club (MADC) is Australia’s oldest advertising club. The Club’s primary aim is to raise the creative and professional standards of the advertising and design industry in Victoria.

The MADC is a professional, not-for-profit association with an eclectic database in excess of 800 industry professionals. Our membership list reads like a who’s who of Melbourne’s creative community and includes representatives from the top advertising agencies, film directors, cinematographers, art directors, copywriters, creative directors, digital producers, graphic designers, photographers, animators, production companies, sound engineers, composers, producers, account service executives and suppliers to the advertising industry.

Annual Events

The MADC works to promote and support the advertising and design industry in many ways. One of the key activities is the annual MADC Awards. The Awards are a competition designed to raise industry standards and promote and celebrate outstanding creative talent in the advertising and design industry. These awards are judged by national and international industry specialists, culminating in a prestigious presentation night held in May attended by around 800 guests. An Annual is published to coincide with the ceremony night, representing a snapshot of the best, most creative advertising and design produced over the previous 12 months.

Of course, it’s not only through awards that we raise standards but also through inspiration and education, something the club fosters by bringing eminent Australian and international speakers to Melbourne to exchange their ideas, techniques and experiences.

We also encourage a sense of community amongst our members with a number of informal events held throughout the year. This gives our sponsors, members and their industry peers a valuable opportunity to network and socialise with each other in a relaxed and entertaining environment. Some of our previous events have included The Cannes Prediction Lunch, industry ‘battle of the bands’ the Bonza Bash, a ’battle of the minds’ in a Trivia Night and a Short Film Festival. We are happy to custom-design events around our sponsors’ needs.

Professional Development

The Club also has a commitment to encourage new blood into the industry. Each year we run MADC Ignition, a mentor scheme for advertising and graphic design students from the key universities around Melbourne. The scheme develops young creative talent by giving students exposure to Melbourne advertising agencies and access to senior creative people.

In conjunction with out major sponsor, The Age, the Club runs Creative RAW, a live competition to promote the development of creative talent with less than three years experience in the advertising and design industry.


This year, the Club launched a completely new website, making communicating with our members even easier. We will be regularly updating the site with news, events, opinions pieces from our members, photos, special offers and information.

We also communicate with our database individually – it is segmented into categories, meaning we can offer up tailored messages from our sponsors to highly targeted audiences.

Sponsorship opportunities

The MADC tailors each sponsorship package according to the sponsor’s needs – from individual events to a full-year package.

Sponsors have the opportunity to communicate with our database through the Club. Depending on the level of sponsorship, packages also include your company’s logo on all our communication, signage at our events, free tickets to events, naming rights to awards categories, free membership and complementary tickets to the MADC Awards.
