MADC's POD returns on August 28 with Australia's leading screenwriters

This edition, From Idea to Premiere, takes audiences behind the scenes of Australian screenwriting, tracing the journey from first spark to final screen. Taking place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at St Kilda Lawn Bowls, the evening will bring together three of Australia’s most celebrated screenwriters for an intimate conversation about craft and the stories that stay with us long after the credits roll.

Hear from our POD screenwriters:

  • Shaun Grant - The screenwriter behind Snowtown, Nitram and creator of Prime Video's The Narrow Road to the Deep North, Grant is a multiple AACTA and AWGIE Award winner whose work has premiered at Cannes, earning a reputation for bringing Australia's darkest true stories to the screen.

  • Elise McCredie - From Stateless and The Clearing to Ride Like a Girl, Elise McCredie has written some of Australia's most celebrated screen stories. The acclaimed screenwriter's latest series, The Airport Chaplain, starring Hugo Weaving, premieres at MIFF just days before she joins POD.

  • Matt Cameron - The writer behind Jack Irish, Secret City, The Clearing, the Emmy-winning Safe Harbour and the AACTA-winning Sunshine, Cameron is also an acclaimed playwright whose work is studied and performed in classrooms and theatres across Australia. His latest ABC drama, Treasure and Dirt, has just premiered.

The panel will once again be co-hosted by Jacinta Parsons (The Friday Revue, ABC Melbourne) and Matt Lawson (MADC Co-President and Co-Founder of ATime&Place), whose trademark banter and curiosity promise an insightful and entertaining conversation. 

Part inspiration, part Friday-night social, POD offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from some of Australia's leading storytellers before settling in for drinks, pizza and networking with Melbourne's creative community.
